21 May - Marie's back in the Water

This month has been a bit of a mad working month. Half of our time has been spent doing our duties on the farm, and the other half getting Marie ready to go back in the water. The main job on the farm for me and stuart this month has been clearing a line through the woods, along the boarder of the farm so Isabelle and Andre will be able to put a new fence up creating a new pasture for the horses. This has been pretty hard work as the woods are so over grown with brambles, vines and dead wood but we managed to finally get it all cleared. Getting up super early each morning (5.30am!) meant we could work on the fence until 11am then we had time to get back to the farm to clean out the horses, have lunch then down to the Marina to work on Marie for the afternoon. The work with the horses has become easier in the warmer weather as only 2 of the ponies come in at night now rather than the 6 we had in at the beginning of the month. Isabelle also has a new trainee at the house who is really lovely and has taken on most of the work that we were doing with the horses which has made life a lot easier. This has given us the last couple of weeks to really concentrate on the boat.
We have repainted the steering station which is now back onboard and looking lovely and shiny. The wooden paneling from the windows and bulkhead have been replaced. The rudder has been reinforced, the hull sanded and antifouled, the sides of the boat have been polished. The bimini has been fixed, 'Marie' has a new sign on the stern, the sails have had a bit of attention paid to them. The floor inside has been repainted, the engine has been given a service. The teak inside the boat is in the process of being cleaned up and refinnished and the whole inside has finally been given a good clean up after all the mess from the work going on! We finally went back in the water on the 16th of this month and are now slowly bring our possessions back down to her. We should be out of the marina by the end of this week so it will be back to sailing adverntures after that!
