Into Hampton Roads, the whole area is a major Naval base so this section will be enjoyed more by boys!!

On every channel marker there is an Ospreys nest, and it is quite cool at the moment as the nests are all full of chicks

Anchored up off of Downtown Hampton

The naughty little ducks that hung around quacking for food

The Public Docks Marina

Marie

A very boater friendly place, that's the Blue Water Marina at the back

Off to the Cousteau Society for a look around, here is one of his crazy submarines, its all very James Bond

A mechanical shark that they used to monitor the habits of Great Whites, they ended up tearing it apart!

A Civil War memorial in the local church yard.

a trip in the dingy past the University and down the river

Probably best not to moor up in this marina!

Now into the Air and Space Museum and this is the capsule that went to the moon

Planes

more planes!

On top of the Air and Space Museum building

Stuart fixing up our bikes for our first ride out

Made it in one piece to the Mariners Museum in Newport News

What a big propeller!

Inside the museum

A reconstruction of a part of the war ship The Virginia

A reconstruction of the warship The Monitor

Famous for the first spinning turret

The salvaged propeller from The Monitor

Salvaged parts from inside the turret of The Monitor

There was also quite a nice art section to the museum with different boats from around the world and artists interpretations

Lots of model boats too, we liked this one as it was so fat and round! (A bit like us!!)

It was a shame we never got to spend any time in the park outside as they had lovely grounds, but we had that horrid long cycle back home to get through

We give up on the big roads with the bikes for the next trip and grab a bus over to Norfolk to see more ships!

Arriving at the Naval Museum

Again, more about the Virginia and the Monitor

Ships bells (not too sure who's though!)

This one must be from the USS Alabama!!

Then outside to have a walk around the USS Wisconsin

No don't jump!!

This bit is definatly for boys!

And time for home!!

After 10 days in Hampton we started to move up through the Chesapeake Bay toward Washington. Another light house.

and this is the storm that we ran into just as we were coming into anchor at Fishing Bay, Stuart just managed to take this picture, put the camera down stairs and put the doors in before it hit with full force.

hurrah! The light at the end of the tunnel

The calm after the storm, and hour after it past we were left with an amazing sunset

The lighthouse just before we turned into the Potomac River

Anchoring in the Yeocomico River for the night

The scenery here is a lot greener and a lot more trees, next stop Washington!
